FedEx Announces New $259M Distribution Center

FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) recently announced plans for a major investment in Greenwood that could result in over 450 new jobs. The company is planning on establishing a new 608,000-square-foot, $259 million distribution center that will be used for small packages, the location of which will be on roughly 230 acres of land near I-65’s interchange at Worthsville Road. Coincidentally, FedEx, which is widely referenced by proponents of the Indiana logistics industry, said that the company chose the location due to its infrastructure components and strategic location.

About 80 of the new jobs will be full-time positions and 375 will be part-time. They will pay about $24.55 an hour and $14.24 an hour, respectively.

Construction is projected to begin in mid-2018 and operations could start up in the summer of 2020. The city of Greenwood’s Redevelopment Commission has approved a $17 million tax abatement for the facility. The next round of approvals for the abatement is headed to the City Council.
