$4.7M Event Center Project Approved

The State of Indiana announced the approval of a Regional Cities project in Warrick County that will expand the list of the community’s amenities as well as increase exposure for the community and regional brand of Indiana’s Great Southwest. The Friedman Park Event Center, an approximately 16,000 square foot multi-use facility, will be built within the 140 acres of Friedman Park in Newburgh, Indiana adjacent to Victoria National Golf Club, one of the nation’s top courses and home to the Web.com Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance.

The Event Center’s primary purpose will be to host events, conferences and corporate events as well as community and business functions; and, help to promote the area as a desirable destination for residents and visitors. The Friedman Park Event Center is a $4.7 million project, and when combined with the construction of Friedman Park, it is an $11.6 million transformative regional destination.  The Friedman Park Event Center was awarded $2 million in state funding through Indiana’s Regional Cities Initiative, which encourages communities across the state to work together to transform their regions into nationally-recognized destinations for talent.

“Through transformative projects like the Friedman Park Event Center, the region is investing in quality of place assets for both current and future residents,” said Elaine Bedel, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). “With this new event center, which is next to one of Indiana’s most popular golf destinations, southwest Indiana will gain a major cultural and economic amenity that promotes tourism in Warrick County and supports the region’s efforts to attract and retain talent.”

“Building a national brand that helps to attract and retain talent is a top priority for Indiana’s Great Southwest,” said Beth McFadin Higgins, President of the Southwest Indiana Regional Development Authority which administers the Regional Cities funding for Southwest Indiana. “Considering the competition for jobs, investment and population growth opportunities, it is essential that the region leverage and build on every opportunity to improve and promote its brand to the nation and the world.”

One of the main goals in attracting talent to the region comes through investing in enhancements that make living in area communities attractive. “Because of the amenities in place, the Friedman Park area is becoming the fastest growing community in Warrick County,” said County Commissioner Dan Saylor. “Presently there is approximately $47 million in surrounding housing development with more expected.” The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
