Governor Joining Data Center Groundbreaking in Hammond, Public Invited

Governor Eric Holcomb and Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott will be gathering with residents, local officials, and project coordinators for the groundbreaking of the new data center that is soon to be established in Hammond. Indiana NAP, LLC (INAP) is bringing to life the new Digital Crossroads Lake Michigan project, which will initially be a $40 million-dollar investment that will be the largest facility of its kind in Indiana.

Officials have stated that the total investment figure could eventually grow to over $200 million, with more than a million square feet of space available for the latest innovations in digital communications and storage.

The building will be established on the site of Hammond’s former State Line Generating Station, a 77-acre site originally built in the 1920s. It’s since been demolished, and the new data center is projected to be a much more environmentally-friendly facility than the site has seen these last hundred years.

Once complete, the new building will be a place where companies lease room to house their data and provide faster internet capabilities. Reportedly, 100 employees could work there. Over 250 construction jobs are expected to be created due to the work involved.
