MDwise Names New President and CEO

Jessica Cromer, a seasoned health insurance executive, has been named president and CEO of MDwise, where she will lead one of Indiana’s largest nonprofit health maintenance organizations providing access to quality health care services to nearly 300,000 Hoosiers. She will begin her new position on Feb. 3, 2020.

“Jessica is a respected, innovative leader who has broad experience managing health care companies,” said Kathy Kendall, president & CEO of McLaren Integrated HMO Group, the parent organization of MDwise. “She possesses very strong analytical skills for solving complex issues. More importantly, she understands the value of customer service and is widely known for her ability to build relationships with her teams and with the communities she serves.”

Previously, Cromer was executive director for Gateway Health Plan (Pittsburgh, PA) and responsible for the management of the Pennsylvania HealthChoices program with 284,000 members and $1.4 billion in annual revenue. She brings more than 20 years of government health care programs experience.

“We’re pleased to welcome Jessica to our team and eager to tap into her wealth of experience in Medicaid and Medicare operations,” said Kendall. “She is uniquely qualified to lead MDwise as she clearly values the critical roles of our providers, legislators and regulators – all of whom work together along with our team at MDwise to achieve the common goal of improving the health status of our #1 priority – our members!”

Cromer also worked 18 years for Amerigroup, an Anthem-owned company, where she earned a series of promotions to more senior positions across a three-state region. Cromer has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Washington & Jefferson College and a master’s degree in applied mathematics from West Virginia University. She and her husband have recently relocated to the greater Indianapolis area.

MDwise was founded in 1994 to help vulnerable Hoosiers who need health coverage in Indiana. In 2018, McLaren Health Care, a Michigan-based nonprofit integrated health system, acquired MDwise.
