The City of Elkhart announced the appointment of Jeff Schaffer as the new Director of Public Works.
A lifelong Elkhart resident, Schaffer brings more than 25 years of experience in planning, engineering, contracting, and management across both the public and private sectors.
He has served as a member of the City’s engineering team for the past six years and was appointed City Engineer in July 2025.
He is a graduate of Concord High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 2001. Schaefer resides in Elkhart with his family.
"Jeff's time with the City has been marked by dedication and hard work. While serving as interim Director of Public Works he demonstrated the ability to effectively manage the department and its staff. I have full confidence in him and we are excited to see him officially step into this role." said Mayor Rod Roberson.
