Duke Energy Foundation Supports Veteran Service Program

Posted

LTHC Homeless Services has received a $5,500 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation in support of its Veteran Services Program (VSP), which provides housing navigation and stabilization services to veterans who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness across Tippecanoe, Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Montgomery, Fountain and Warren counties.

Duke Energy’s grant will directly assist at least 10 veterans by covering essential needs such as transportation, rental application fees, and basic furnishings – helping ensure rapid housing placement and long-term stability. These flexible funds will fill critical gaps not covered by federal programs, especially for Indiana National Guardsmen and younger veterans.

In 2025, LTHC’s VSP served 100 people (including 66 veterans) across 71 households, including 59 individuals, 12 with children. Of the 72 individuals who exited the program, 64 moved into permanent housing and seven into temporary shelter, with only one returning to homelessness, a success rate of more than 98%. As more post-service young adults seek assistance, this funding ensures LTHC can continue providing timely, individualized care.

“We’re grateful for Duke Energy’s support in helping veterans transition from crisis to stability,” said Jennifer Layton, President and CEO. “This investment strengthens our community and honors those who’ve served.”

The Duke Energy Foundation’s contribution complements existing support from the U.S. and Indiana Departments of Veterans Affairs, CenterPoint Energy Foundation, Wabash Community Impact Program, and the Arconic Foundation. Together, these partnerships boost local economies by increasing veteran workforce participation, reducing reliance on emergency systems, and promoting housing stability in both urban and rural communities.

“Veterans shouldn’t face homelessness alone,” said Dagny Zupin, Government and Community Relations Manager for Duke Energy. “We’re proud to support LTHC’s mission and help ensure those who served our country have the resources they need to build a stronger future.”
