GAF, a Standard Industries company and North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, was recently honored by the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City (EDCMC) with a Salute to Business Award. The award recognizes GAF’s ongoing investment, economic impact, and commitment to the local community throughout its more than 25 years of operation in the region.
The award was presented as part of EDCMC’s annual celebration which honors businesses and community leaders that are helping drive entrepreneurial and economic development in the region through dedication, innovation, and perseverance.
Since establishing operations in Michigan City in 2000, GAF has grown its footprint in the region, supporting nearly 200 local jobs. Most recently, the company constructed a new distribution center near its manufacturing facility, expanding its ability to serve customers while creating additional opportunities for local contractors, vendors, businesses, and talent.
“For more than two decades, GAF has been a proud member of the Michigan City community, and the EDCMC’s Salute to Business Award is a meaningful recognition of our commitment to the region,” said Matt Hannon, GAF-Michigan City Plant Manager. “For GAF, being a good neighbor means more than creating jobs and investing in our operations. This recognition reflects the passion of our Michigan City team, whose commitment extends beyond our facility walls and into the community we are proud to call home.”
Beyond its business investments, employees actively support the Michigan City community through volunteerism and partnerships with local community organizations including the United Way of Greater La Porte County, The Salvation Army of Michigan City, Boys & Girls Club of La Porte County, and La Porte County Habitat for Humanity.
“Over the past 25 years, GAF has not only created jobs and expanded its operations here but has also become an engaged community partner. We are proud to recognize GAF with a Salute to Business Award and celebrate the positive impact the company and its employees continue to make across Michigan City,” said Clarence Hulse, President & CEO, EDCMC.
The Salute to Business Award underscores GAF's long-term commitment to Michigan City and reflects its broader commitment to supporting the communities where its employees live and work, grounded in the belief that strong businesses and strong communities grow together.
