Purdue Fort Wayne Opens Trace Student Housing Community

Posted

Purdue University Fort Wayne opened The Trace, a new housing community that expands residential options for students and supports the continued growth of Northeast Indiana.

University leaders and representatives from Gilbane and Inwood celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, recognizing the collaboration behind the project and its anticipated impact on students, the university and the broader community.

The Trace addresses growing demand for student housing after Purdue Fort Wayne’s existing residences reached full capacity for six consecutive fall semesters. The 213,000-square-foot community adds 176 apartment-style units and 601 beds to the campus.

"The Trace represents much more than a new residence hall. It is an investment in our students, our university and the future of Northeast Indiana," said Ron Elsenbaumer, chancellor of Purdue University Fort Wayne. "As a hub for knowledge, innovation and the talent that fuels Northeast Indiana’s workforce, Purdue Fort Wayne is committed to attracting and preparing the talent our communities and employers need. The Trace strengthens that mission by creating more opportunities for students to live, learn and build their futures here."

Developed in partnership with Gilbane and managed by Inwood, The Trace serves students attending Purdue Fort Wayne and other colleges and universities throughout the region. The community also offers flexible accommodations for individuals seeking short-term stays, such as interns.

The Trace was designed to support student success inside and outside the classroom through modern apartment-style living and amenities that promote academic achievement, wellness and connection. Residents may choose from fully furnished studio, two-bedroom and four-bedroom apartments with utilities included. Each residence features private bedrooms, a modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances and comfortable living areas.

Community amenities include a fitness center, convenience store, game room, quiet study spaces and lounges on every floor. Outdoor features include grilling areas, fire pits, sand volleyball and basketball courts, and green spaces with hammocks. Purdue Fort Wayne residents also receive an included meal plan.

By expanding housing options and improving the on-campus living experience, The Trace helps the university attract and retain students while contributing to regional growth and advancing the Allen County Together Plan. The Allen County Together Plan is a 10-year economic development strategy designed to attract talent and investment, create jobs, and support projects such as new student housing that strengthen the region’s growth.
