A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new Deaconess Clinic Downtown in Evansville. The new clinic features 100,000 square feet of clinic and office space and includes primary and specialty care, lab and radiology services, and a new Deaconess Clinic EXPRESS is scheduled to open later this year on the first floor of the building.
IU School of Medicine-Evansville, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), and the Research Institute of Deaconess Clinic will occupy 8,575 square feet for clinical research. The Vision Care Center will also be leasing space in the new building. Patients and employees will have access to covered parking in the adjacent parking garage which is connected to the new building via an enclosed pedestrian bridge.
“This new facility confirms our commitment to providing convenient, high quality care in Downtown Evansville,” said Shawn McCoy, CEO, Deaconess. “However, our commitment extends beyond downtown, and even the city and county. The downtown medical campus is a growing destination for people from across the region, seeking medical education, primary and specialty care, research opportunities, and the opportunity to participate in clinical trials. We are proud of and excited about our role in providing innovative and advanced care to our region, as part of the ongoing revitalization of downtown Evansville.”
The dedicated collaborative clinical research space will be partially funded by $9 million from the Regional Cities Initiative.

Schellinger continued, “The new Deaconess Clinic Downtown, together with the IU School of Medicine-Evansville’s embedded clinical research space, in combination with the adjacent Stone Family Center for Health Sciences, will serve to attract top medical talent and investment in the future of southwest Indiana’s workforce. Today, the city of Evansville and the entire region are gaining a vibrant destination where students, researchers and health care professionals can connect, collaborate and work to create a stronger and healthier Indiana.”
Over the coming weeks, practices will move from the current Deaconess Clinic Downtown building to the new one. The current Deaconess Clinic Downtown building is leased; the owners have not yet announced future plans for the space.
