The Home Builders Association of Northwest Indiana (HBANWI)’s 2026 Home Building & Remodeling Expo, proudly presented by Von Tobel, recently welcomed over a thousand residents from across the region. Attendees connected with over 50 trusted local businesses, explored the latest in homebuilding and remodeling trends, and took meaningful steps toward their next home projects.
Beyond connecting homeowners with industry professionals, this year’s Expo made an even greater impact by investing directly in the future of the construction industry. The HBANWI is proud to announce that proceeds from the event and with the support of industry sponsors, funded two $5,000 grants awarded to Tri-Creek School Corporation in Lowell and Valparaiso Community Schools in Valparaiso.
These grants will support high school construction and skilled trades established programs, providing students with the tools, resources, and hands-on learning opportunities needed to pursue careers in the building industry and continue their education.
As the demand for skilled labor continues to grow, investing in the next generation has never been more important. The average age of a builder is nearing 50, highlighting a critical need to recruit, equip, and prepare young people for careers in construction and the trades. Through initiatives like this, the HBANWI and its partners are helping to ensure a strong and sustainable workforce for the future.
“This is an exciting step forward for our Expo and our association,” said Codi Morrow, Expo Chairman, HBANWI Board Director, and Sales Manager at Von Tobel. “By supporting high school construction programs, we’re not only investing in students—we’re investing in the future of our industry and our communities.”
Zach Garza, HBANWI Board Member and Branch Manager at ICC Floors, added, “These programs give students real-world experience and open doors to meaningful, rewarding careers. We’re proud to play a role in helping schools expand those opportunities.”
This marks the first time the Home Building & Remodeling Expo has awarded grants of this kind and is excited to build on this momentum in the years ahead with continued support from sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees.
Through collective leadership and shared purpose, the Home Builders Association of Northwest Indiana serves as a strong voice in shaping local housing policy while developing collaboration and professional growth across the region. Yet its mission extends beyond construction. By supporting local schools and investing in students through initiatives like the Expo grant program, the association reinforces its belief that strong communities begin with strong foundations, not only in homes, but in families and education. When families thrive, neighborhoods prosper, and when students are supported, the entire region benefits. Home Builders Association remains dedicated to making a lasting impact in Northwest Indiana, building community, one home and one opportunity at a time.
The 2026 Home Building & Remodeling Expo was made possible through the generous support of its exhibiting sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor Von Tobel; Event Sponsor Schillings; Gold Sponsor Briggs Insurance Agency; and Silver Sponsors Higgins Overhead Door, Hörmann North America, and Popa Heating & Cooling.
