The Wabash County Museum has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation. The Duke Energy Foundation is focused on strengthening and uplifting communities through grant funding.
The grant awarded to the museum will support the Family Access Membership program. The Family Access Membership Program provides free annual membership to families who could not otherwise afford to visit the museum. It was created as part of the museum’s initiative to be accessible to all. Qualifications include participation in programs for those with lower incomes, foster families, and families with children with disabilities.
“Receiving this grant from the Duke Energy Foundation ties directly to one of the museum’s core values – be accessible,” shares Teresa Galley, executive director of the museum. ”Connecting families, especially those who face financial, educational, or developmental challenges, to the museum is an important part of our mission.”
“We’re so glad to support an initiative that’s aimed at bringing even more people into the museum to learn about the history of this beautiful community,” said Jennifer Jordan, government and community relations manager, Duke Energy. “It’s wonderful to see the museum focusing on accessibility for local families.”
The Wabash County Museum houses 100 permanent exhibits, a large children’s indoor play area, a hands-on STEM exhibit, and a sensory friendly space. The museum’s archives hold thousands of records on area history. In addition to the exhibits and educational spaces, the museum also provides about 50 community events annually, many of which are free of charge.
